In planning our promo shots the first thing we did was to study debut album covers from existing female solo artists which can be seen below:
A selection of album cover promo shots we studied |
From this we decided we wanted to use the conventions of:
- A clear central image of GiGi
- Different colour schemes
- Different costumes
We also noticed that a variety of shot types and poses were used which we will incorporate into our shoots to give us a variety to decide from.
Another interesting thing for us to consider is whether we have GiGi looking directly at the camera (creating direct address) or if we want her looking out of frame which is an idea that we want to use in our actual music video.
We will use a range of different set ups including the ones from the music video and ones taken in photo shoot sessions. Even if the ones taken on set are not suitable we will still be able to make use of them in our project through using them as behinds the scenes imagery for our website.
We also used other existing promo shots and poses to help us plan out our ideas for our poses:
Planning our promo shots has been useful in the project as it allows us to show GiGi's star identity (Dyer) and will save us time in our photo shoot sessions
